With elections coming up in May, the Arroyo Food Co-op is asking its members to consider running for a board position. In a newsletter today, the organization announced that five spots will be open.
Candidates need to be paid members of the AFC, though full investment is not required. Interested persons will also need to have attended three board meetings as an observer before the election. Board meetings are scheduled for March 8, April 5 and May 3. Anyone interested in running for a position is asked to submit a candidate statement of no more than 250 words to firstname.lastname@example.org by May 1, end of day.
In other AFC news, the co-op hopes to start its pre-order program this month. The plan, as laid out at a board meeting last Saturday, is for sales to begin the third week in February. Co-op members will be able to place orders online and pick up their items at the store a couple of days later.
Intended as a transitional model, the pre-order, prepay program will be discontinued once the AFC opens its full store on Wilson Avenue. In December, members voted 141 to 18 for the co-op to go ahead with a pre-order business model.
